Advertising Through Moms

⊆ September 7th, 2008 by admin | ˜ No Comments »

Moms have a very powerful influence on what their families eat, drink, wear, do, and buy. Moms are not only the driving force behind their families, but also the economy.

Moms Have The Power!

Moms have the power to start a trend or “nip it in the bud”. Moms want a reasonably priced, high quality, safe, and reliable product. Do you have such a product?

What Are You Sitting There For?:

Tap into this market! Advertise to moms in your church, at your child’s school, little league games, reading groups, moms clubs, or the gym. The possibilities are endless because, in case you haven’t noticed, Moms are everywhere!

Don’t Be A Pusher!

Moms have brains! They can smell a “dead rat a mile away”. You don’t have to “push” your product if your product truly is what you claim it to be. Gently offer them the information and let them make an educated decision. Don’t over hype or under sell either. Don’t use fear tactics or “deal of a life time” approaches. Granted these may work on some moms, but most are pretty aware of “corporate” brainwashing.

Moms promoting Each Other:

In the Cyber world of today there is an ever-growing community of Moms who are supporting each other by promoting one another. Ever heard of “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”? This is exactly what thousands of work at home moms are doing each and every day.

By promoting each other they are doing one of several things:
1. Getting free advertising for their site/business/opportunity
2. Building business and personal relationships
3. Branding their business name
4. Supporting work at home families
5. Reaching out to the community
6. Sharing the wahm/wahd Message
7. Offering discounts and freebies to new and returning customers (which by the way saves Moms money)

How Do I Get Involved?:

You can join this growing movement by visiting a number of networking sites. Some I have listed in the resource section. You’ll need to print off some business cardsVista Print has an excellent deal–, develop an advertising campaign, track your advertising campaign with a coupon code and then Make Your Packs!

1. Ziplocks/Baggies/Envelopes

2. Cards, coupons, samples, brochures *tip samples and coupons are the best bet

4. Distribute the packets to local merchants, with your orders, at school functions, etc..

5. Exchange with other moms so they can advertise for you..

Prove It! - Give Your Marketing and Advertising More Credibility

⊆ August 24th, 2008 by admin | ˜ No Comments »

Your marketing and advertising won’t be effective if your potential customers don’t believe the claims you make. So how can you prove your that you can do what you say you can?

Tone it down. Even if it is possible, your claim that dieters can lose 50 pounds in a month probably won’t be believed. Make it more realistic and representative of typical results.

Get customer testimonials. Let them see that others have had great results. Testimonials should be specific and include the customer’s real name for the most credibility.

Get endorsements from experts. Respected authorities who say that your product or service is good make you look good.

Positive media coverage will make you a star. Media coverage provides an implied endorsement from a respected source.

Show a track record. Have you been in business for 20 years? Customers are more comfortable doing business with someone they believe will be around if there is a problem after the sale.

Make yourself accessible. Give a phone number or e-mail address where customers can contact you (or support staff) directly with questions. Phone numbers are especially valuable in creating the awareness that you are approachable by clients. Add live chat at your web site to resolve support issues.

Cite statistics from a reputable source to back up your claims. There is a joke that 67.8% of all statistics are made up on the spot. When you use statistics, tell where they came from.

And, never make claims that aren’t true. If you are caught in a lie, it can be difficult or impossible to reclaim the trust of your customers.

You Know You Need an Advertising Expert When…

⊆ May 22nd, 2008 by admin | ˜ No Comments »

You don’t even know whether your program is working or not. Sure, you think it’s fine, but you also don’t call the doctor when you have a severe cough or cold. It’s the same thing. Of course, you have to recognize you actually have a problem to begin with. Your miserable promotions won’t hack and sneeze to alert you. But they still may be ill just the same. So how can you tell?

You could ask yourself a few simple questions. Then you will know if you are wasting time and money on your current campaign:

  • Are you tracking every customer?
  • Do you know what part of the ad or ads that brought them in?
  • Do you know how often you should change your ad?
  • Are you advertising in the same place as your competition?
  • Are you missing any customers?

Take a look at question two. Do you have an effective headline or picture, in your ad? If you’re not sure, you didn’t track the results properly. What if it’s attracting the wrong type of customer? For instance, if you sell tires, are they always coming in asking for the low-priced, discount types? If so, wouldn’t you make more selling the high-end, longer-lasting ones? Perhaps it’s the advertising message that’s causing the trouble. An easy fix might be to change your approach and stress the warranty and quality of the item, rather than the price. Without feedback, you’ll never be able to seek out the offender. Especially if you run several ads in different media.

The solution is to retain a trained professional. One that is experienced in designing and recommending effective marketing. After all, you probably pay an accountant and that person is strictly overhead. A true advertising consultant can make you money by tapping the right kind of customer and luring them in. But, if you have a limited budget, you could begin with a good book instead. How about one written by a rep who worked for the Bell System for 25 years. It’s a cheaper way to go and still might provide ways to spruce up your current program.

Jeffrey Hauser’s latest book is, “Inside the Yellow Pages,” which can be viewed at http://www.poweradbook.com

He was a sales consultant for the Bell System Yellow Pages for nearly 25 years. He graduated from Pratt Institute with a BFA in Advertising and has a Master’s Degree in teaching. He had his own advertising agency in Scottsdale, Arizona and ran a consulting and design firm, ABC Advertising. Currently, he is the Marketing Director for thenurseschoice.com, a Health Information and Doctor Referral site.
